Lacrosse Legends- Jack Bionda

Oct. 16, 2024

Every sport has it’s GOAT - Greatest OF All Time. Each era produces a player or two that can make the claim. In Canadian Box Lacrosse in the 50’s and 60’s it boils down to two players - Bobby Allan and Jack Bionda. These stars couldn’t have been any more different from each other. Allan wa small, speedy, wiry and relentless. Bionda was a plodding big man - 6’2” and 220 lbs. He was blessed with stick-handling ability and a sixth sense on the floor that few, if any, have matched since.

His play lit up arenas on the West Coast and Easterners got to see him many times in the Mann Cup. His out-going personality made him a fan favourite, and his presence in a game caused a huge bump in box office receipts.

Bionda was a gifted athlete and he played hockey for the Leafs and the Bruins. He appeared with other Bruins on the cover of Sports Illustrated at one point!

Bionda passed at a relatively young age. We tell his story with a great collection of VHS interviews and footage, clippings, and with the help of Jack Fulton, Paul Parnell and Bill Bradley all legends in their own right with strong British Columbia history.

Join us on in hearing a great tale of a great player that few can match.
