Lacrosse Canada Officially Recognized by Canadian Olympic Committee

Oshawa, Ontario, June 18, 2024 - The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) announced the official recognition of Lacrosse Canada (LC) as the National Sport Organization (NSO) governing Lacrosse in Canada, effective April 21, 2024. This recognition underscores Lacrosse Canada's pivotal role in overseeing and promoting the sport across the country.

In addition to this significant recognition, Lacrosse has been included in the LA2028 Olympic program, marking a historic moment for the sport.

"We are overjoyed by the recognition bestowed upon Lacrosse Canada by the Canadian Olympic Committee," said Shawn Williams, President of Lacrosse Canada Board of Directors. "This momentous occasion underscores the dedication and passion of everyone involved in the sport of lacrosse across Canada. With lacrosse set to debut in the LA2028 Olympics, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to showcase Canadian lacrosse talent on the global stage."

The inclusion of lacrosse in the Olympic program not only highlights the sport's popularity and growth but also represents a significant milestone in Canadian sports history. Lacrosse Canada is committed to preparing its athletes, coaches, and officials for Olympic competition and is enthusiastic about the prospects of forming Canada's first Olympic lacrosse teams.
