Canada set to host World Lacrosse Super Sixes competition in October

Women’s teams from Canada, the Haudenosaunee, and England to face off in World Lacrosse Sixes in Oshawa

OSHAWA, CANADA - World Lacrosse Super Sixes returns in October as Canada Lacrosse will host some of the top women’s teams in the world for a three-day competition from October 7-9th at the Civic Stadium Field at 99 Thornton Rd S, Oshawa, Ontario.

The Haudenosaunee and England will compete against Canada in a double round-robin with six total games across the three days before the top two teams face off in a final for the event on Sunday, October 9th at 12 p.m. ET.

Super Sixes continues a set of World Lacrosse events started in 2021 that saw five tournaments featuring the newest brand of the sport. Sixteen men’s and women’s teams competed in Sixes at The World Games, an international multi-sport event, this past summer, with Canada sweeping the gold medal in the men’s and women’s competitions.

This year’s competition is the inaugural Sixes tournament to be hosted by Canada Lacrosse annually in the fall, as World Lacrosse looks to expand the Sixes’ discipline with an upcoming Sixes Series that will feature more of the top teams in the world competing against each other in sanctioned tournaments.

World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr said: “The launch of World Lacrosse Sixes in 2021 was extremely successful for our sport, and this event in Canada will keep that momentum going after an already strong 2022. The new discipline’s speed, skill, and broad appeal have allowed it to grow, and after we saw those positives on a global stage at The World Games, I am excited for World Lacrosse Sixes tournaments to continue to feature our top athletes, starting in Canada next week.”

Lacrosse Canada High-Performance Coordinator Terry Rayner said: “These are exciting times as we begin to showcase this new exciting discipline of Sixes lacrosse on the World stage here in Canada.”

All of the Super Sixes games are scheduled to be broadcast for free internationally, with streaming information coming before the start of the event next week.

Admission throughout the weekend will be free to all spectators.

Canada, the Haudenosaunee, and England all participated in the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship this summer before competing in Sixes at The World Games, where many of England’s athletes competed for Great Britain. All three teams finished in the top eight of the women’s championship, and Canada and England finished in the top four in both events. Rosters for all three teams will be available next week.
