To all active national team athletes,
LC is inviting nominations for the role of Athlete’s Director on the LC Board of Directors. This will be for a two-year term commencing November 2022.
An Athlete Director shall be nominated by National Team athletes and elected by the Members at the LC Annual Meeting in November 2022.
The LC BOD determined (in 2018) that for the purposes of providing a nomination, a national team athlete is defined as an individual who was selected and played on one of the last 5 LC national teams (both male and female). For the 2022 nomination, those that were selected and played on the 2022 MF U21, 2022 WF SR, 2022 Sixes teams, 2019 U19 WF, 2019 Indoor Box, and 2018 MF SR are eligible to submit a nomination. Only athletes (players) can submit, not coaches, directors, managers, or support staff.
Who can be nominated?
The following is the excerpt from the LC Bylaw s.35:
“......The Athlete Director will be from the alumni of National Teams, or National Team staff, and elected by the Members. .....”,
As to who is eligible to be nominated, this individual should be someone who the athletes can trust to ensure confidentiality on issues and be able to advocate on their behalf to the Board.
How do I nominate someone?
First, contact the individual you wish to nominate to see if they are interested in taking on this role. If they have any questions or concerns, they may contact Jane Clapham (LC Executive Director) by phone (343-998-2374) or email jane@lacrosse.ca.
If they are willing to have you put their name forward, then please email their contact information (name, address, phone number, and email address) to Jane Clapham (LC Executive Director) at jane@lacrosse.ca who will acknowledge and follow-up with the individual to confirm their nomination.
When is the deadline to submit a nomination?
The deadline to submit nominations for the position of Athlete Director is October 20, 2022 (30 days prior to the Annual Meeting on November 19, 2022) as per Policy 9.2.1.
All nominations, including nomination form and resume, must be submitted to Gerry Van Beek, Chair, Nominations Committee (gerry@bclacrosse.com) and Jane Clapham, Executive Director (jane@lacrosse.ca).
As a current national team player, this is an important step in having a voice on the decisions that affect the national team program, and to have an individual, act as an Ombudsman, in representing them personally, in a confidential and private way on issues that may occur.
I encourage you to seriously give this matter your thought and attention.
Again, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact Jane Clapham at 343-998-2374 or by email at jane@lacrosse.ca.
Thank you.
Yours in lacrosse,
Jane Clapham
Executive Director, Lacrosse Canada
