Limerick, IRE—Head Coach Matt Brown announced prior to Wednesday’s game the three men voted upon by their teammates who will serve as captains for the duration of the 2022 World Lacrosse U21 Men’s World Championship. They are midfielders Thomas McConvey, Graydon Hogg, and Sam English.
Thomas McConvey, Toronto, ON
Thomas McConvey, Vermont graduate and incoming graduate transfer for the University of Virginia, has been called one of Vermont’s best players in program history. Named America East’s Offensive Player of the Year as a midfielder in 2022, he set a UVM single-season record of 60 goals. McConvey graduated seventh all-time in program history with 172 points, registering at least one point in all 52 career games.
Graydon Hogg, Oshawa, ON
Graydon Hogg, rising senior at Albany, appeared in all 15 games his junior season. Named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, he scored a team-high 26 goals, 12 assists, and 21 ground balls. In 2021, he was named to the America East All-Rookie team and lead UAlbany in goals, third in points. His sister, Bryar, is also a member of the Canadian women’s national team.
Sam English, Burlington, ON
Sam English, junior at Princeton, was a 2022 All-Ivy League selection. He had 30 goals and 17 assists on the season after moving from SSDM to first-line midfielder, including a career-high five goal game. English finished the season third on the team in goals and points, and second in assists. Prior to Princeton, he was won three national championships with Culver Academy, and has won three Canadian national championships.
Brown also announced Finn Thomson as the team alternate, who would substitute in the case of a positive COVID-19 test for any of the active roster.
