Limerick, IRE—Canada opened the 2022 World Lacrosse U21 Men’s World Championship with a loss against the USA, the defending gold medalists.
It was a total team effort by Canada on both sides of the field, with five different scorers. Noah Manning and Thomas McConvey had two points each, but it was Adam Poitras’ second quarter goal to open the scoring for Canada that changed the pace of the game for the team.
“After that first quarter, we figured out what type of intensity we needed to play with in this tournament,” said head coach Matt Brown. “That first quarter, it was the first time we’ve ever played together. But by the second, we ramped it up, and we’ll continue to do that every game.”
Graydon Hogg, Noah Manning, and Ross Scott were the other goal scorers for Canada, while Alex Marinier and Thomas McConvey notched the assists.
The stands were packed with family and fans in red and white—Canada flags strung between sticks, and cheering heard clear across the field.
Canada will next face Australia on Thursday, August 11 at 7 p.m. IST.
