Canada tops Czech Republic 15-7, advances to semi-finals of 2022 Women’s World Championships

Jul. 06, 2022

Towson, MD—Canada battled through another weather delay and tough turf conditions to pull through with a 15-7 victory over Czech Republic in the quarter final matchup of the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship.

“It was a tough game tonight, but we had some good touches on the ball. We fought through the adversity of another delayed start, but we’re all looking forward to tomorrow and getting to play another day,” said coach Scott Teeter.

Every member of the attack contributed, but it was the defense that ultimately made the difference in this match-up. Maddy Baxter was named player of the game, contributing two goals, one assist, one ground ball, and causing one turnover.

“Today’s game was a great opportunity for a lot of our players to take on new roles - we had two new draw takers in Annabel and Jillian who did great, and a lot of people touching the ball. I think this will really help us as we move into the next round of play,” said captain Emily Boissonneault.

Canada won 20 of 26 draw controls, and had 33 shot attempts in the evening.  Both Kam Halsall and Cassidy Eckert were in net for a half.

Canada will face England, who defeated Israel, in the semi-finals on Thursday, July 7 at 9 p.m. ET.
