World Lacrosse Job: Sport Development Manager

World Lacrosse (WL) is the recognized international governing body for men’s and women’s lacrosse. WL is responsible for the governance and integrity of all forms of lacrosse and provides responsive and effective leadership to support the sport’s development throughout the world. WL seeks to hire a qualified individual to serve as its Sport Development Manager.

Under the supervision of the Director of Sport Development (DSD), the Sport Development Manager (SDM) provides administrative and project management support to the Sport Development business unit.

Primary Responsibilities (80%)

  • Grant Administration - Working with the DSD, the SDM ensures that existing and future World Lacrosse Sport Development grant programs (BCH, Emerging Nations, Collaboration, DiscoverLax, NGB/CF Development, etc...) are effectively communicated, delivered, monitored, and reported on as appropriate to various internal and external constituencies.

  • Grant Opportunities - Identifies, applies for, and secures grants to support Sport Development initiatives, programs, and/or services. Additionally, ensures World Lacrosse adheres to standards and expectations of grant providers with respect to activity and financial reporting.

  • SafeSport Management - Working with the Director of Sport Development, the SDM supports the administration of a WL abuse prevention program for all WL events. This would include:

o developing protocols and standards for participation in World Lacrosse activities,

o creation and distribution of best practices guides and resources for NGBs,

o creation and monitoring of reporting mechanism/processes.

  • Project Management - supports the DSD, Development Committee, and Technical Committee in the planning, activation, and completion of Sport Development

    projects, activities, and events (as related to Grants and SafeSport).

  • Member Services - The SDM is a direct point of contact for one or more assigned regions/Continental Federations (CFs). Within the assigned region(s) the SDM will:

o Identify contacts for new member countries.
o Steward relationships with new contacts and develop the minto qualified WL members.

o Identifies and supports member readiness to transition to next level of WL membership.

o Support future and existing members by;

  • proactively presenting the menu of programs and services, 

 

  • assist the NGBs and/or CF(s) in selecting, acquiring and implementing programs, resources, and services,

  •   assist in the identification and creation of new programs, resources, and services,

  •   work with the in-region NGBs and CF to track participation metrics,

  • attend and/or present at events within the assigned region and provide feedback on the impact and effectiveness of World Lacrosse programs and services within the region.

  • Supports the assigned CF(s) by attending and participating in applicable Sport Development activities. 

 

 

Secondary Responsibilities: (20%)

  • Events - is an ambassador for World Lacrosse and assists in the execution of events such as World Championships, Continental Qualifiers, Annual General Meetings and others. Attends major domestic events in assigned region(s).

  • Communications - The SDM is a liaison between the Sport Development and Communications business units to support timely internal and external awareness of Sport Development activities as appropriate.

  • Administrative Support - Supports other business units as needed and appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.

    Key Skills:

  • Computer Skills: Knowledge, comfort, and efficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Communication Skills: Ability to respond timely, positively, and effectively to inquiries from a wide variety of constituents. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to give effective oral and digital-based visual presentations to groups of all sizes. Strong writing and editing skills are a must. Multilingual is beneficial

  • Management Skills: Excellent relationship-building skills needed to manage international programs and work effectively with fellow staff and volunteers. Demonstrable leadership skills to train, motivate, and mentor people involved in supporting World Lacrosse programs. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Associated skills: Creative thinking and problem-solving. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, meet overlapping deadlines, adapt to changing circumstances, and positively manage stressful situations. Strong work ethic. Must be self-motivated. High-level of discretion and ability to keep sensitive information confidential, as well as skill with diffusing stressful situations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management, or equivalent is beneficial but not required.

  • Knowledge of the sport of lacrosse and all its disciplines is beneficial.

  • Strong consideration will be given to candidates with a demonstrable history of success consistent with the Primary Responsibilities outlined in this job

    description.

 

 

Salary: $45,000-$65,000 USD per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

 

Employment Status: This is a full-time, salaried position for one year, with potential for permanent employment based upon the employee’s performance and World Lacrosse needs.

Location: As the international federation for the sport of lacrosse and with a global presence, this World Lacrosse position can be located as desired by and convenient to the successful candidate. In region residency is beneficial.
