(Bianca Chevarie, Charlotte Smith, Mackenzie Beam)
On Saturday July 27, the Canadian U19 Women’s Field Lacrosse Team gathered in Oakville to prepare for the 2019 Women’s Lacrosse U19 World Championship. At this practice, the three team captains were announced: Bianca Chevarie, Mackenzie Beam, and Charlotte Smith.
“There were two main factors when choosing the team captains: experience and maturity. Their knowledge of the sport of lacrosse. We told the team that although the three we’ve chosen are going to lead us to our goal, we’re going to have 20 leaders out there,” explained head coach, Scott Teeter. “These athletes all show an extreme amount of maturity, they’re well liked by their teammates, and when the coaching staff is not around, I know I can count on them to make the wise decisions.”
Bianca Chevarie, 18, is a team Canada alumna, having played on the 2017 Canadian Senior Women’s Lacrosse Team that won a silver medal. Mackenzie Beam, 18 has played with the Lady Blue Knights for her entire lacrosse career and will be attending the University at Albany in the fall. Charlotte Smith, 17, attends the Hill Academy and will be going to James Madison University next year.
“Being named Team Canada captain means a lot to me,” said Mackenzie. “It has been a huge honour being named as one of the three captains. The fact that I have been given the opportunity to help lead the way to bringing home gold was something that I didn’t expect, but something I am truly grateful and excited for as I take on this new role on the team.”
