Canada into Semi Finals

The Canadian men’ team is through to the semifinals at the World Lacrosse Box Championships for the sixth time in tournament history, after a 22-4 win over Japan Thursday morning.

Canada’s faceoff specialist, Jake Withers, wasted no time getting the offence going, scoring seven seconds into the game before Matt Gilray scored 11 seconds after him and Shane Jackson scored 29 seconds after him. Canada quickly added two more goals from Josh Byrne and Jeff Teat that led to Canada having a 11-1 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Wesley Berg record a hat trick in exactly four minutes to extend the Canadian lead. Dhane Smith added one just before halftime that quickly arose to 17-2 at halftime.

In the third, Canada scored four straight goals with Robert Church adding the final goal midway through the fourth quarter.

Canada controlled the game from the opening draw and were led offensively by Jackson, Smith and Byrne who finished with ten, nine and eight points respectively.

Four different players recorded hat tricks in the game and starting goalie Nick Rose allowed four goals on 31 shots to earn his first win of the tournament.

Canada will now play the winner of the fourth ranked team England facing off against fifth ranked team Czechia who play their quarterfinal match Thursday at 1:00PM.
