Limerick, IRE—Canada’s grit, determination, and heart were on full display on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to topple the unbeaten USA. With a score of 12-10, Canada will bring home its seventh silver medal from this tournament.
Canada opened the tournament with a 7-5 loss to the US, but went undefeated throughout the rest of the tournament until today’s game. They defeated Australia 18-3, England 13-1, and Haudenosaunee 14-6 in pool play. Canada met the host country, Ireland, in the quarterfinals with a 17-7 win and defeated Australia 19-1 in semi-finals.
Levi Verch, Owen Hiltz, and Graydon Hogg were named to the All-World Team. Ross Scott was also named the tournament's Most Outstanding Attacker.
Canada finished the tournament with 63 goals for and 37 goals against.
Ross Scott (17G G, 11A) and Owen Hiltz (19G, 7A) put up outstanding performances throughout the tournament. Caleb Creasor and Aden Walsh were steady in the cage, and each posted a 53 per cent save percentage.
This marks the end of an action-packed summer for Canada’s national teams, which opened with a silver medal finish at the Women’s World Championships, and both the men’s and women’s teams winning the inaugural golds at the World Games.
